With Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season just around the corner, it’s important to show those closest to you that you’re grateful for them. Expressing thankfulness is an easy way to put a smile on someone’s face or brighten up his/her day. Take advantage of the giving season, and give back to your loved ones!
#1: Buy an empty journal, and every day for a month, record things that make you grateful for your family and friends. At the end of the month, surprise them with a personalized “gratitude journal” just to show how much they mean to you every day!
#2: Grab a brown paper gift bag, some colored string (preferably the person’s favorite color) and some tissue paper. Fill the bag with little trinkets– maybe candies, jewelry, or toys– that you think the person would like. Wrap each gift in tissue paper, place them in the bag, tie with the string, and label it “Brown paper package tied up with string … filled with a few of your favorite things!”
#3: Make someone their favorite meal. Even better, surprise them with it and share it with them. This works especially well for moms or other people who usually make you meals. By going out of your way to make someone a special dish, you show your thankfulness for them and the things they do.
#4: Go to a used bookstore or thrift store and buy a few books you think the person would enjoy. Before giving him/her the books, read through and highlight passages or quotes that remind you of your loved one or that you think would make them laugh. People will appreciate your creative effort, and feel appreciated by you!
#5: Giving thanks to your closest friends and family members is important all year round, not just during the holiday season. The simplest and most effective way of doing this is by just telling them. All it takes is a “Thank you for all that you do. I love and appreciate you,” to make both their day and yours.
