Both the boys and girls soccer teams are extremely optimistic about their seasons and rightfully so.
Last year, the girls team finished with a record of 10-1-3 in league and an overall record of 14-4-3. They finished their season with a hard fought loss against Aptos by a score of 3-2 in the first round of CCS. Although this was still a good finish, the team felt that they had came up short.
The girls team has a number of returning senior players such as Cassidy Ballard, Samantha Pillsbury, and USA U17 women’s national team member Emily Smith. With a lot of experience spread throughout the team, it seems as if they are bound for another majorly successful season. Hopefully they can improve on their finish on last year and make it all the way through CCS.
When asked about her predictions for this upcoming season, Ballard said, “I think we are going to win league.” This confidence and belief is a constant trait within this year’s team.
“Our goal is to win CCS this year. We got really close my sophomore year getting second place and this could be our redemption,” Ballard said.
When Pillsbury was asked about her role from having four years of experience on varsity she said, “I try and make the underclassmen feel more comfortable and confident.”
On the boys side, captain and senior Adam Czerny has similar high hopes for his squad.
“Through my four years of varsity experience I’ve learned a lot over the past and have looked up to past leaders on the team in order to continue success for Leigh soccer. Overall we have a lot of team experience together and I think everyone knows what it takes to be successful and reach our goals. I’m looking forward to the season,” said Czerny.
“Our ultimate goal is of course winning league and then going on to CCS in my senior year. Our success will be based off how much work we put in.” said senior Shun Kato.
Clearly, the upcoming soccer season seems like it’s bound to be a successful one. With talent and hard work there our no limits for the Longhorns this season. Come out and support the teams on their roads to CCS!
