“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” came out on May 5 and quickly became popular with audiences nationwide. The movie follows the characters Star Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Baby Groot (voice: Vin Diesel), and Rocket Raccoon (voice: Bradley Cooper), as they now go on a new adventure again saving the galaxy. The movie also brings back characters from the first movie such as Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Some other new characters are Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Ego (Kurt Russell).
The movie starts out with the Guardians of the Galaxy helping out the leader of the Sovereign race: gold people programed to perfection. After, they help protect some batteries from a slimy monster with many tentacles. Rocket steals part of the batteries, causing them to be chased by the Sovereign race and eventually meeting Quill’s father. After meeting Quill’s father, their new adventure starts as they try to save the universe from a new threat.
This movie included some great comedic elements, references to the first “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and some heartfelt moments that helped make the it very enjoyable. In keeping with a lot of the elements that were in the first movie, the directors were able to create something that was very entertaining, even if you had not seen the first one.
Most of the comedy and jokes were good, making this movie more than just an action adventure. Some of the best funny moments came from Drax’s one-liners, and the hilarious actions from Baby Groot as he was one of the cutest parts of the movie.
One of highlights of the movie is the ‘80s music played from Quill’s tapes, whether they were playing out of his ship or his Walkman. The music in the first movie was better than the second movie because some of the songs in the second one were not as well-known as the ones in the first movie. Overall, I thought that this was a great movie that I would really recommend people see if they are looking for a movie that is more than just a comedy or action adventure movie because you get both of those elements in the movie, and the directors did a great job of combining them. With the added special effects to really bring you to space, this was a movie that makes it worth seeing.
Another thing I would recommend is getting tickets online and getting to the theater early; movie will sell out and if you get there late, it might be hard to find a seat. I learned that the hard way.
